How to be Realistic in Your Everyday Life

Published by diablo2 at 4:24 pm under Self-Improvement Edit This

Here are some tips that can be painfully obvious, but people rarely follow. These are meant to help you distinguish: If, When, How, Right, and Wrong. Just go for it.

Do not talk behind anyone’s back and later shake the victim’s hand. If you have a problem or concern with someone, be upfront and instead lend your hand to offer constructive feedback.

Stop judging someone by his/her first impression. Sure, we all learned that the first impression counts most. However, let’s leave that to dates and job interviews. Assuming someone is an idiot because you two got off on the wrong foot may only be the result of social incompatibility.

When you ask someone to lend you some money, PLEASE return it as soon as possible. I have personally dealt with this one too much. Simply because the person in need is a friend or relative does not mean he/she gets to keep the cash.

People often say “Can I please borrow some money AND I will pay it back in the next week or two” all within the same breath. Why? Simply to convince you the person in need is reliable. But what happens then? This person often ends up giving you an initial payment, but eventually “forgets” about the agreement made before hand.

Remember, no one said you have to pay the full amount at once! Set up a payment plan of $40 weekly, or whenever convenient for the two parties. Before you know it, you will be debt-free without even feeling broke.

Talking about payments, DO NOT get involved in further debt until you pay your previous “lender” first. We all have dealt with someone who has said “I am sorry, I cannot pay you this week because I had to pay the bills, etc”. But how come do they always have enough money to go see a movie, spend the night at a club, and have an expensive dinner all in one night?

People, get real. Do not buy another car, another flat screen TV or expensive stereo until your previous debts are paid off. Your good friend was kind enough to lend you some money in the first place.

Stereotypes? Cut the crap. Not all Latinos are thugs, not all Blacks are thieves, not all Whites are bad at rap, and no, not all people from Indian descent work at your local Seven-Eleven. Educate yourself before opening your mouth to something you might regret later.

Furthermore, just because a foreigner has an accent DOES NOT mean his/her English is not good. The ability to speak English, for example, has NOTHING to do with the way your tongue expresses words. What someone knows is in a person’s head, not in the way he or she speaks.

Personally, I have met many with an accent, but I can assure you this: They have had the ability to teach any citizen of “Country X” a thing or two, whether it comes to grammatical issues, reading, or any other literature-related subject.
